| The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) Anyanwu Anthony / Atsuko As Christian we go to church on Sunday, and sometimes, on weekends. We listen to passages from the holy bible and listen to our Priest explain the Gospel and the day’s readings. Sometimes we also read the holy bible ourselves and we understand and appreciate the content. However, how often do we think that the story applies to us, too? For example , when we hear the story of the Good Samaritan, we all praise the Good man from Samaria, and we appreciate how we came to the aid of the victim in that story. I think we also condemn the rest of the people that looked the other way while they passed victim, who was lying helplessly on the side of the road. Whenever we hear that story, we all think we would have acted like the Good Samaritan and that is good. The only problem is that we also conveniently see the story as something that happened a long time ago in faraway judea. In realy, similar story can happen here in japan, in Osaka and in our presence. Actually I witnessed one recently. One evening, this past spring, I was going to kaizuka with my wife and we were driving along Route 170 from Izumi-shi towards Rinkuu town. At a junction, where we were to turn right and drive towards our destination, the traffic suddenly stopped moving. Initially, we thought it was a normal traffic jam, but it was not. After a few cycles of traffic light turning from red to green and back to red, we noticed that some cars started moving to the adjacent lane and then back to the original lane before turning right. As we drove closer, we noticed that they were avoiding a small truck that suddenly stopped on the road. That truck was being pushed by one man and the driver was inside. The man who was pushing the truck did not have enough power to move the truck to the direction he wanted. So the truck was rather rolling back gradually and that was what the other cars avoiding and moving to the other lane. And then a Good Samaritan(or perhaps, a Good Kaizukan) came out of his car and helped the stranded man to push the truck to safety. So the question is : are we ready to become a good Samaritan whenever God requires us to do so? 「よきサマリア人」 泉北教会信徒 アウンヤン アントニー・敦子 クリスチャンとして、私たちは日曜に、また時々は平日にも教会に行きます。私たちはそこで聖書を読んだり、神父様の説教を聞いたり、福音や朗読を聞いたりします。日頃、聖書を読んでその内容に感謝したりすることもあります。 しかし、聖書の話が私たちの実生活にどれくらいあてはまるのかを考える機会は少ないかもしれません。例えば、すべての人が「よきサマリア人」の話を読んだ時、旅中の心の美しいサマリア人の男が、追剝ぎに遭った人を助けたことを理解し、彼の行為を褒めたたえるでしょう。同時に、道ばたで途方に暮れる被害者を助けずに、無視して通り過ぎた人たちを非難するでしょう。この話を読むと、自分なら「よきサマリア人」のような行為ができたはずだ、と思うかもしれません。ただそれは遠い昔の遙か彼方のジェリコで起こった話として便宣的に考えてしまうのも本当です。 最近、これに似た話をここ日本の大阪で体験しました。6月のある夕方、私と妻は和泉市からりんくう方面に向かって170号線をドライブしていました。貝塚辺りで、私たちの目的地の方向に右折しようとしている時、車の流れがはたと止まりました。初めは普通の渋滞かと思っていたのですが、違いました。何度か信号が青から赤になるのを待った後、私たちの前の何台かの車が、左側の直進レーンに一旦それてから右折していっているのが見えました。交差点に近づくにつれて、それらの車が、何台かのトラブルで突然止まってしまった軽トラックを避けて通っているのだと分かりました。軽トラックの運転手は車内にいて、同乗者が降りて後ろから押しているようでした。軽トラックを押している男性は一人では力が十分でなく、車を行きたい方向に押し切れなくて、むしろ少しずつ後退している感じでした。だから他の車が別のレーンに一旦よけて右折していっていたのです。そこに「よきサマリア人」（よき貝塚人？）が現れ、一緒にその軽トラックを押し、無事発進させることができました。 重要なのは、私たちは神がそうせよと仰せられたときにいつでも「よきサマリア人」になる準備ができているのだろうか、ということだと思います。 （注釈） これは私が英語で書いたものを妻が和訳しました。 |
