| 常に回心を 堺ブロックチーム 春名昌哉 昔から「喉元過ぎれば熱さを忘れる」と言います。熱い食べ物や飲み物でも飲み込んでしまえば熱さを忘れてしまう。それが転じてどんな困難にあっても過ぎ去ってしまえば忘れてしまう、苦しいときに他者から援助を受けても楽になればその恩を忘れてしまうという意味です。前回の苦しみを覚えていれば同じことを繰り返さないのでしょうが、すっかり忘れてしまい同じ苦しみを味わってしまう。これは人間の本質を表していると言ってもいいのかもしれません。 今月5日から四旬節に入ります。イエスの受難を思い起こして回心し、罪を悔い改める期間です。しかし旧約聖書には神の恵みを目の当たりにしながらも、それをすぐに忘れてしまう人間の姿が描かれています。たとえば出エジプトの出来事。「民は途中で耐えきれなくなって、神とモーセに逆らって言った。『なぜ、我々をエジプトから導き上ったのですか。荒れ野で死なせるためですか。パンも水もなく、こんな粗末な食物では、気力もうせてしまいます。』主は炎の蛇を民に向かって送られた。蛇は民をかみ、イスラエルの民の中から多くの死者が出た。民はモーセのもとに来て言った。『わたしたちは主とあなたを非難して、罪を犯しました。主に祈って、わたしたちから蛇を取り除いてください。』モーセは民のために主に祈った。主はモーセに言われた。『あなたは炎の蛇を造り、旗竿の先に掲げよ。蛇にかまれた者がそれを見上げれば、命を得る。』モーセは青銅で一つの蛇を造り、旗竿の先に掲げた。蛇が人をかんでも、その人が青銅の蛇を仰ぐと、命を得た。」（民21･4b~9）という出来事がありました。イスラエルの民は出エジプトの途中、何度も神さまによって救われたにもかかわらず、再び困難が訪れたら何故自分たちを助けたのかと文句ばかりを言う始末でした。まさに「喉元過ぎれば熱さを忘れる」です。それでも何度も回心する民を神さまは救い続けられました。 私たちも救われた喜びを忘れ、困難の旅に神さまに不平を言っているのではないでしょうか。私たちの罪のために十字架にあげられたイエスの姿を常に仰ぎ、私たちも回心の道を歩み続ける必要があります。「神が御子を世に遣わされたのは、世を裁くためではなく、御子によって世が救われるためである」（ヨハネ3・17）。神さまはすべての人が救われることを望んでおられます。私たちも神さまの呼びかけに応えて回心の道を歩みたいものです。 Always called to Conversion “After something hot running through your throat, you forget the heat” is an old Japanese saying. In other words, the heat is forgotten after swallowing hot food or hot drink. This may help us to say that whatever difficulties we face, sometimes they are forgotten when they have passed. After receiving help from people while facing trials, we often forget to express gratitude to them. If you remember the sufferings experienced in the past, you will not want to live them again. On the contrary, if you forget them completely, you may have to face them once more. This may represent the true nature of human beings. Lent season begins on the 9th of this month. It is a time to remember Jesus’ suffering, time for conversion and repentance. Nevertheless, the Old Testament describes the people forgetting God’s grace although they bear witness to it. For example, the event of Exodus when people lost their patience and spoke against God and Moses. They complained, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in this desert, where there is no food or water? We can’t stand any more of this miserable food! Then the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many Israelites were bitten and died. The people came to Moses and said, ‘We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Now pray to the Lord to take these snakes away.’ So, Moses prayed for the people. Then the Lord told Moses to make a metal snake and put it on a pole, so that anyone who was bitten could look at it and be healed. Moses made a bonze snake and put it on a pole. Anyone who had been bitten would look at the bonze snake and be healed.” (Nb 21:4b-9). The Israelites were saved by God during the Exodus. This story shows that whenever the Israelites faced trials, they continued to complain and asked for God’s help. It is exactly like the saying we have started our reflection with “After something hot running through your throat, you forget the heat.” However, God always continues to save the people who respond positively to the call to conversion. Like what happened to the Israelites in the Exodus, we can also forget the joy of being saved by God and start complaining about the hardship in our journey. Instead, we must always keep the gaze fixed on Jesus who was crucified for our sins and continue to walk on the path of conversion “For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its savior.” (Jn 3:17). God wants the salvation of all people. We too should respond to God’s call and walk towards conversion. Fr. Haruna Masaya |
